Hire me for game design
I will talk to you of art,
For there is nothing else to talk about,
For there is nothing else.
Life is an obscure hobo,
Bumming a ride on the omnibus of art
-Maxwell H. Brock
It’s a common misconception that a game designer is just an “idea guy”. The truth is, everybody can think of a million-dollar idea while taking a shower. The art and craft of game design are the way we transform an idea into something tangible and meaningful.
Let’s say that your idea is to create a horror game. Apart from the lighting and environment, how can a game be scary? Which camera should you use? There are enemies? Do they attack? Do you have life points or die in one hit? There are weapons? How many? Hoy many ammo? Where do you find it? How do you save your progress? What happens if you die?
And things can get much more complex in games with an economic system and other complex designs. Taking all those tiny decisions correctly will make de difference between a game everybody loves or a game everyone makes fun of. There is a reason why AAA companies pay a good salary to game designers.
“Ok, so what are your game design services like?”
It depends on the point of development you are. If you have an idea for a game and need a crystal-clear GDD (game design document) for your team to work with, I will do it for you. If you have a design going on but doesn’t seem to click, I will revise it with you or your team to polish everything.
When working with my clients, we usually book a meeting to discuss the ideas, the scope of the project, and all the details in it. Then, I quickly redact the GDD for them, taking care of any twist necessary after the prototyping phase.
